  • Biga on the Banks

    203 S. St. Mary's River Walk

    (210) 225-0722

Bruce Auden continues to be the city's premier apostle of world-wise regional cooking, and there is no better place to get one's gastronomic feet and whistle wet than at the sinuous bar. Here, the noodle menu includes such enticements as chicken fried oysters with squid ink pasta and pancetta, and a red coconut curry with egg noodles, shrimp, and snap peas - which can be paired to appropriate wines by the glass from Biga's ample list. - Ron Bechtol

  • Bliss

    926 S Presa San Antonio

    (210) 225-2547; (210) (FAX)

; Mark Bliss has returned to town and to the first restaurant he can call his own, and there couldn’t be a more congenial place for sampling New American cuisine.  Simplest dishes seem to be the best so far; more complicated preparations can fail to meet expectations — but then we were expecting a great deal.

  • Bob's Smokehouse (Fredericksburg Rd.)

    5145 Fredericksburg San Antonio

    (210) 344-8401

Here's a truth to be reckoned with: Don't wait until near closing time to hit a popular barbecue joint. Arriving at Bob's a full hour before the alleged closing time on a Saturday, we were the last to be let in. "We had a blessed day," explained out erstwhile hostess. Translation: They had been slammed and were out of just about everything but pork ribs and sausage. Nothing to do but bar the door under such circumstances. - Ron Bechtol
  • Boiler House

312 Pearl Pkwy, Building #3 San Antonio

    (210) 354-4644

We are open for curbside delivery everyday from 3pm to 9pm. You can order by phone (210)354-4644 or online at https://www.toasttab.com/the-boiler-house/v3. Pick up is at the corner of Karnes St. And Pearl Pkwy. Tell us what time you'd like to pick up and we will have it waiting for you.

; Boiler House is Pearl’s most dramatic restaurant to date, and the wine list is its most developed. But though the menu offers gems, notably in smaller plates and vegetable sides, it’s also very oddly organized, and its emphasis on expensive Boiler Cuts of meat and fish seems misplaced. In good weather, the outdoor “wine garden” should nevertheless prove appealing.
