    Better Butter is a live show that features a multicultural ensemble and a continuously changing “play-list” of original and true stories, experiences and cathartic points of view performed onstage in one hour (mas o menos) in hopes of building stronger human connections.     Raised in Kansas City, Mo., Carmen Cartiness Johnson is a self-taught acrylic painter. Her early work of flat, colored, graphic shapes is based on summer visits to her grandmother’s farm. Her later paintings progressed to a more dimensional painterly style. Johnson’s narrative art takes a snapshot of people interacting in social situations. The inspiration for her vivid paintings comes from poems, songs, novels, media, as well as the works of Romare Bearden and Diego Rivera. 2102077211

    In traditional ekphrastic poetry, a work of art is closely studied by the writer. The writer then considers the work carefully, absorbing any sense of mood, emotion, or intellectual vibe they may perceive, ultimately expressing those feelings in poetic terms. Cody Vance intends to create a visual ekphrastic exercise by taking a step back from his own sculptural work and observing pieces he’s spent dozens of hours working on, then paint in response to whatever comes forward. 2102077211

    This course offers an exploration into the fundamentals of drawing the human figure in a procedural approach. Students will explore how to draw the gesture clearly and learn to contain the forms that make up the human body into basic volumes (i.e. spheres, boxes, ellipses and cylinders).     Monday, April 15, 2024 is the kickoff of the MEGA CORAZÓN celebration, an online spoken word marathon that is part of San Antonio’s National Poetry Month participation. This festival presents San Antonio’s poetic tradition that combines street, classical, and slam performance styles in a production that is improvisational, at times painful, and choreographed for a highly visual impact.
